SUMMARY:Featured in Art Hop (Takoma Park)
DESCRIPTION:Art Hop 2018\nJoin us for this special weekend when we transform Takoma into a lively arts district showcasing the work of local artists. We’ll match artists with our local businesses to display their work over the weekend of April 28-29\, 2018.  You will find ceramics\, digital art\, drawing\, fiber arts\, glass\, jewelry\, metalwork\, mixed media\, painting\, photography\, printmaking\, sculpture\, woodworking and more offered for sale at a variety of price points. Enjoy live outdoor music and dance performances all weekend too. \nVisitors can grab an Art Hop Map from any of the participating businesses and explore art at their own pace while taking in “Meet-the-Artist” receptions and live performances all weekend. The Art Hop Map doubles as a punch card which will be stamped at each Art Hop Stop location and may be turned in at the Art Hop Info Booth to be eligible for prize drawings! \nPresented by the Old Takoma Business Association\, Your Main Street Takoma. \nChinedu’s  featured in Restaurant and Cafe: Takoma BevCo\nThe collaboration of two cousins\, Takoma Beverage Company has been a dream of Chris’s and Seth’s for many years. After working together in a busy specialty café\, Chris and Seth became intoxicated with the world of beverages\, the stories they contain within and the social world they promote. Noticing that people who enjoy specialty coffee also desire the same level of craft in their beer or cocktail\, the cousins wanted to create a place where people could come to hang out with their friends and their beverages\, and continue the everlasting tradition of coming together that only a drink can initiate. \nBefore coming to Washington\, D.C.\, both Chris and Seth had been living abroad and traveling the world. The sense of connection contained within tea\, coffee\, wine\, beer and liquor and how it persists from culture to culture became a great constant of their travels. Continuing that sense at Takoma Bev. Co. is one of their utmost priorities\, from traveling to origin and meeting the farmers and producers to showcasing the levels of specialty that exist worldwide. \nTakoma Bev. Co. was founded in 2016\, with the first café opening in downtown Takoma Park\, Maryland\, in 2017.

SUMMARY:The Ties that Bind: The church\, identity\, activism\, & community in the African American experience
DESCRIPTION:  \n“Still I Dream” by Chinedu Felix Osuchukwu \nCome Join Chinedu Felix Osuchukwu\,  Office of the Dean\, the Diversity Committee\, and Gallery O on H for an exhibit of art and photography in honor of Black History Month. The exhibit explores the African American experience in the United States through a collection of documentary photography\, oil paintings\, and artwork that incorporates weaving and textiles to address issues of identity and belonging. \nThe work will be up until March 2\, 2018. \nAbout John Hopkins University SAIS School  \nFor over seven generations\, Johns Hopkins SAIS has produced graduates who have gone on to tackle some of the most pressing policy challenges in the world. As an internationally-focused school\, we push our students to find constructive\, collaborative\, and thoughtful approaches to solving any problem anywhere. And while the study of race in the United States is not a traditional component of the international affairs curriculum\, we continue to incorporate it into our programming as the national dialogue on race in the country has intensified and evolved in recent years. It is in this spirit of seeking greater education and social change that we host this exhibit. \nThe works in this exhibit have been curated by Shamila N. Chaudhary\, Senior Advisor to the Dean and Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute\, who has started an initiative on visual arts with policy impact in mind.
